This Village once possessed a notorious ideological retraining center, and one of the country's most feared prisons nearby, addressing threats of common citizenry and government corruption against the "American war era" (as it's called in Vietnam) communist government. It was also the site of a major factory producing farm supplies, which was razed after it contaminated the surrounding area. You can see the enviromental consequences in some of the photos. The native bamboo pipe contains the region's supernaturally strong regional tobacco, which produces a short, intense, almost halluinogenic state. Althought we shared no words in common, we were met by smiles and kindness in this place, located an hour's full-bore, insane scooter ride from Hanoi's old town. These images are as-shot.
